The Virginia Industries for the Blind in Charlottesville made the new mattresses going into dorm rooms. The men and women making the beds are blind, visually impaired, or deaf and blind. It’s a program that helps them achieve their goals despite their disability.
Dr. Rick Mitchell, Commissioner of the Virginia Department for the Blind and Vision Impaired, said the job gives them more than a paycheck.
“By the Virginia industries for the blind creating jobs that individuals that are blind and vision impaired can do it’s giving them the independence that they want,” Mitchell said.
