Liberty University’s New London Airport expansion plans withdrawn, preliminary discussions begin again

The Town of Bedford held a public preliminary review Tuesday at the County Administration Building to discuss Liberty University’s New London Airport expansion. Liberty University proposed relocating the headquarters of the Flight Training Affiliate program to the New London Airport. When it purchased the airport for $1.8 million in late 2015, LU submitted rezoning and special-use applications for the expansion plans back in 2019.

“So, where we’re at right now is that Liberty had submitted a rezoning and special use in early of 2019, both of those applications are no longer valid, they are withdrawn basically, and right now we’re in the evaluation process of figuring out the 50% expansion of what they could do by right.”

Several residents of Bedford County who live near the New London Airport have valid concerns.
