MILESTONE: LU Surpasses 50,000

Thanks to their distance online program, LU has more than 50,000 students for this Fall. 12,000 are expected to be on campus, another record breaker.

WDBJ:

More than 50,000 students will attend Liberty University this fall.  Twelve thousand will be on campus in Lynchburg.  Another 45,000 will pursue a degree online.

Chancellor Jerry Falwell, Jr. says the popularity of LU’s online program comes from the bad economy, which is forcing students to take classes on the internet to save money.

“Those 45,000 are students working toward a degree. They’re not just somebody taking a class and then moving onto something else. I told the students this morning, there’s enough students in our student body now to fill Dodger stadium,” said Falwell.

The school accepts more than 90 percent of students who apply, but Falwell says academic standards are being raised each year.
