{"id":85,"date":"2008-06-18T05:28:28","date_gmt":"2008-06-18T10:28:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.libertystudentnews.com\/?p=1063"},"modified":"2008-06-18T05:28:51","modified_gmt":"2008-06-18T10:28:51","slug":"fasnacht-is-league%e2%80%99s-woman-of-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.libertystudentnews.com\/?p=85","title":{"rendered":"Fasnacht is league\u2019s Woman of Year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span id=\"article_font\">The Big South Conference announced Monday that Liberty women\u2019s basketball player Allyson Fasnacht has been named the Big South Conference\u2019s Woman of the Year for 2007-08.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Fasnacht is Liberty\u2019s second consecutive Big South Woman of the Year honoree. In 2007, track &amp; field standout Arlene Zelinskas was recognized by the conference.<\/p>\n<p>Fasnacht was a four-year letter winner for the Lady Flames and helped Liberty capture three Big South regular-season and tournament championships, as well as three NCAA Tournament berths \u2014 including Liberty\u2019s run to the Sweet 16 in 2005.<\/p>\n<p>She was the MVP of the 2006 Big South Championship, was a Big South All-Freshman team selection in 2005, and was named first-team all-conference in 2006.<\/p>\n<p>Fasnacht was honored as the Big South Scholar-Athlete of the Year in women\u2019s basketball in 2007-08 and was a two-time ESPN The Magazine\/CoSIDA Academic All-District selection during her career.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, she was named to the Big South Presidential Honor Roll three times, was team captain her junior and senior seasons, and was a two-time member of the Big South Women\u2019s Basketball All-Academic Team.<\/p>\n<p>She appeared in 124 career games for Liberty with 95 starts, scoring 672 points while handing out 326 career assists.<\/p>\n<p>The point guard, who graduated with a 3.89 grade-point average in sports management and is currently pursuing an MBA degree at Liberty, helped the Lady Flames earn a spot on the WBCA Academic National Top 25 Team Honor Roll in 2005-06 and 2006-07.<\/p>\n<p>She recently won Liberty\u2019s Rock Royer\/Mac Rivera Award, the university\u2019s highest athletic honor presented each year to a senior student-athlete.<\/p>\n<p>She also received the inaugural Dr. Jerry Falwell Leadership Award this past spring.<\/p>\n<p>As the Big South Woman of the Year, Fasnacht is nominated as a candidate for the national NCAA Woman of the Year Award.<\/p>\n<p>The NCAA also allows conferences to nominate a second candidate if one of the two student-athletes is a minority.<\/p>\n<p>Winthrop softball player Stephanie Reid, a finalist for the Big South Woman of the Year award, is also nominated by the conference for the NCAA award.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Big South Conference announced Monday that Liberty women\u2019s basketball player Allyson Fasnacht has been named the Big South Conference\u2019s Woman of the Year for&#8230;<\/p>\n<div class=\"more-link-wrapper\"><a class=\"more-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.libertystudentnews.com\/?p=85\">Continue reading<span class=\"screen-reader-text\">Fasnacht is league\u2019s Woman of Year<\/span><\/a><\/div>\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_jetpack_newsletter_access":"","_jetpack_dont_email_post_to_subs":false,"_jetpack_newsletter_tier_id":0,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[3,4],"class_list":["post-85","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-general","tag-feature","tag-features","entry"],"aioseo_notices":[],"jetpack_featured_media_url":"","jetpack_shortlink":"https:\/\/wp.me\/pJcR0-1n","jetpack_sharing_enabled":true,"amp_enabled":true,"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.libertystudentnews.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/85","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.libertystudentnews.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.libertystudentnews.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.libertystudentnews.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/3"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.libertystudentnews.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=85"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.libertystudentnews.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/85\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.libertystudentnews.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=85"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.libertystudentnews.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=85"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.libertystudentnews.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=85"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
