Liberty quarterback Charlie Brewer suffered an injury in the Flames’ 29-27 win over Southern Mississippi to open the season. Brewer is expected to be sidelined six to eight weeks with a broken hand, suffered in the game, according to Bruce Feldman. Brewer, who transferred in from Utah in the offseason, will undergo surgery on his hand this week to have a pine or plate inserted, according to the report. Brewer was named the Flames’ starter Aug. 22 under coach Hugh Freeze.<\/p>\n

Brewer beat out Johnathan Bennett and former Tennessee transfer Kaidon Salter for the starting job.<\/p>\n

“I think all of us get along really well, all have our strengths, our weaknesses, and a lot of those guys helped me a lot learn the offense back in the spring and still doing that to this day,” Brewer said previously of the quarterback competition. “I think the camaraderie is pretty good between all of us.”<\/p>\n
