Roanoke Times:<\/a><\/p>\n

A Liberty University professor and her son were killed early Sunday in a vehicle crash in Roanoke County.<\/p>\n

Jill Jones, 41, and Nicholas Jones, 16, died when their vehicle was struck by an SUV driven by Paul Harris, 42, of Roanoke, at 12:30 a.m., according to Roanoke County police. Jones was a professor in education at Liberty in Lynchburg.<\/p>\n

Harris was traveling westbound on Challenger Avenue at a high speed when his SUV ran a red light at the intersection with Cloverdale Road. The SUV struck two vehicles that both were turning left from Cloverdale Road onto eastbound Challenger Avenue, police said. Jill Jones and Nicholas Jones died at the scene.<\/p>\n

Melanie Rice, 42, of Montvale, was driving the second vehicle.<\/p>\n

Rice was taken to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital and is in serious condition, hospital spokeswoman Allie Buth said.<\/p>\n

Harris and his passenger, Melissa Harris, were taken to a local hospital, according to a news release from Roanoke County police. Buth said she had no information on Paul and Melissa Harris.<\/p>\n

It appears that Paul Harris was under the influence of alcohol and or drugs, stated a news release from Roanoke County police.
