Akers has \nserved as vice provost since June and was dean of Liberty\u2019s Helms School\n of Government from 2010 to 2018. Akers started his time at Liberty over\n a decade ago at the School of Law, where he continues to serve as an \nadjunct professor. Prior to joining Liberty, Akers spent several years \nworking as an attorney and practiced law in Louisiana at the state and \nfederal levels, including the Louisiana Supreme Court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Akers holds a juris doctor from Regent University School of Law and a master\u2019s degree in public policy from Regent University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reporting directly to President Falwell as \npart of his executive leadership team, Akers will be responsible for \nreviewing and recommending organizational structures as well as \nappointing personnel to manage and execute the functions of the \nuniversity\u2019s online academic programs. He will assess the purposes, \neffectiveness, and quality of current and proposed online programs and \noversee the appointment and evaluation of faculty members and academic \nleadership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Liberty announced the appointment of Scott \nHicks as university provost in January. Hicks will manage provost duties\n for Liberty\u2019s residential programs, working closely with Akers to \ndevelop and implement the vision and values of the university across all\n academic disciplines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
