Liberty University administrators have received an apology from the LU Dems\u00a0 on Sunday and are negotiating terms for reinstating school recognition.<\/p>\n

The main change in the club that it would not endorse any candidate at any point, but as individuals.<\/p>\n

LU Dems retracted and apologized publicly for accusing LU Vice President of Student Affairs Mark Hine of saying that Democrats couldn\u2019t be Christians. and the club\u2019s statement that they couldn\u2019t hold meetings on campus, which they can.<\/p>\n

Here’s the club\u2019s proposal and Childress\u2019 apology:<\/p>\n

\u201cFirst of all, I apologize for the misunderstanding of the media that our club was banned from campus,\u201d the e-mail states.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2026 There was also concern over the media\u2019s characterization that Liberty University officials believe you cannot be both a Christian and a Democrat. We are fully aware that this is not the position of the administration, and none of our members or I have ever quoted such information to the press.<\/p>\n

\u201cHowever, Mr. Hine\u2019s initial email stated that \u2018the Democratic Party Platform is contrary to the mission of LU and to Christian doctrine.\u2019 This sweeping statement followed by references to issues such as \u2018socialism\u2019 and \u2018hate crimes\u2019 is largely what we believe caused the media to make certain assumptions about the position of the administration.\u201d<\/p>\n

The club had met via conference call last Thursday before issuing the proposed changes.<\/p>\n

One of the suggestions was for Childress step down as adviser.<\/p>\n

But the majority of the club voted to keep her as adviser and continue working toward a resolution.<\/p>\n

Administrators \u201chave not reached an agreement\u201d on whether Childress will retain her position as adviser.<\/p>\n

Hine has been suggested as a possible replacement.<\/p>\n

The club and school still are working out details for the club\u2019s constitution, such as the wording of disclaimers that would be included with any brochures or campaign information club members distribute on Democratic candidates.<\/p>\n

The school also has decided that it will exclude certain clubs that endorses any candidates<\/span> from college funding that will be provided starting in the fall.<\/p>\n

A response is expected from the LU Dems.<\/p>\n

Last month, LU withdrew its recognition of the club because it supported the Democratic Party\u2019s pro-choice and pro-gay marriage rights platform and candidates.<\/span><\/p>\n
