Former Liberty University student, Chad Gurney, is found guilty of murder and arson in Maine announced this morning.

Gurney strangled his girlfriend, cut off her head and set her body on fire in 2009. Gurney never denied the actions. He plead not guilty by reason of insanity.

Gurney faces life in prison. There is no death penalty in Maine. Sentencing will be held at a later date. Had Gurney been found not criminally responsible by reason of insanity, he would be sent to a mental hospital instead of prison.
