Syracuse AD John Wildhack says Liberty’s description of coronavirus testing is ‘inadequate’ and ‘troubling’

Syracuse athletic director John Wildhack said a description of Liberty’s coronavirus testing process indicated that the Virginia-based school was taking an “inadequate” and “troubling” approach to coronavirus testing..

The Orange football team is scheduled to host Liberty in the Carrier Dome on Oct. 17. Syracuse players have sat out four of the first eight days of practice because of concerns about the coronavirus. While players have publicly expressed confidence in SU’s protocols, a source told Syracuse.com that a significant reason for sitting out was that players had concerns about whether other schools on the schedule, such as Liberty, were being as diligent as SU.

Liberty coach Hugh Freeze’s description indicated that the school was not meeting the standard set at Syracuse during the preseason.

On Friday night, the News & Advance, the newspaper in Lynchburg, reported that Freeze said the program hasn’t had a positive test in three weeks. The reason for that could have been that players had passed screenings for symptoms over the past two weeks and haven’t been tested.
