THE CAMPBELL COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE PRESS RELEASE ON SCOTT RAY

On September 4, 2009 a burglary occurred at 102 Spring Oaks Drive Lynchburg, VA. The home was equipped with video surveillance and showed a white male, dressed in Khaki pants and a red button-up shirt coming through the back door of the residence. The male went immediately to the medications located on the counter top in the kitchen. A bottle of Tramadol and a bottle of Hydrocodone were taken and the subject left the residence.

A Campbell County Sheriff’s Office Investigator viewed the video and immediately recognized the male as Scott Alan Ray. The investigator had arrested the subject in 2005 in a similar offense. A search warrant was executed at Ray’s residence on the evening of 09/04/2009 and clothing matching the description of those worn by the suspect in the video was recovered.

A search warrant was also executed at Liberty University on 09/09/2009; recovering surveillance video of Ray dressed in clothing that matches those in the burglary video just hours before the burglary.

Warrants for Ray are outstanding at this time, charging:

Burglary
Possession of a Schedule II Narcotic
Possession of a Schedule II Narcotic
Commonwealth’s Attorney Neil Vener plans to seek additional charges at the Grand Jury on 09/14/2009 in reference to several other similar incidents.
