LU to stay away from Political Clubs

Liberty University is trying to work on a proposal that would end the school’s official endorsement of all political campus clubs.

The proposal would categorize political clubs as unofficial clubs, which would not receive money from the university, but would still be able to use the university’s name.

Unofficial clubs will now be able to use the school’s master calendar system to take advantage of the school’s facilities.

Formerly, unofficial clubs were relegated to areas such as dorm rooms, student centers and the dining hall.
Unofficial clubs that choose to sponsor a candidate whose stance is contrary to the mission of the school, would be denied use of the school’s main facilities.

Don’t we live in America? come on LU, this isn’t Iran, students are allowed to have an opinion! Where’s the freedom of speech when you can’t even publicly stand up for your political views or endorse a certain candidate? A “public university” who is suppressing free speech like this by not giving the same benefits to some student organizations as it does to others should NOT be given any money from the government. This is ridiculous.

    Alex,

Your comments are absurd. You should probably learn the difference between the rights of a private university and public university, and the real meaning of “suppressing” free speech. Oh, and read the Constitution. Nothing Liberty is doing is unethical, illegal, OR unConstitutional. The only thing that is ridiculous is people like you making comments when you have no idea what you’re talking about.
