Liberty University re-launches local TV station as vehicle for sports programming

Liberty University recently purchased the license for channel 24, a full-power TV station serving all of Central and Southwest Virginia.

The channel was most recently known as “WDRL,” but it went off the air in 2010 when the previous owner got into a copyright dispute with a cable company.

Liberty has spent more than a year preparing to re-launch the channel as “WFFP,” a vehicle for sports programming. School leaders have built a TV studio at River Ridge Mall, where programs like the sports show “Game On” are produced.

LU students use the facility as a training ground.
