Liberty University exploring James River hydro power as part of energy-savings review

Liberty University is studying the possibility of using the James River to generate electricity.

The University has filed an application with the Federal Regulatory Commission proposing to study the feasibility of installing a powerhouse with four generators at the Scotts Mill Dam near Lynchburg.

The application to FERC seeks a preliminary permit. That’s a first step in what would be a long licensing process with the agency.
