The presidents of the University of Richmond and Liberty University earn the highest compensation among top executives of Virginia’s private colleges and universities, The Chronicle of Higher Education reported Monday.

UR President Edward L. Ayers’ total compensation of just more than $1 million made him the 35th highest paid executive nationally, while Liberty President Jerry Falwell Jr.’s $803,860 salary ranked 59th, according to The Chronicle’s survey of salary data from 2012.
