Lench becomes third player in history to win Florida Open, Florida Amateur in same season

Liberty University junior Gabriel Lench of Lake Mary became only the third player in history to win both Florida’s two open championships in the same season as he put the finishing touches on a wire-to-wire performance on Sunday to win the Florida Open at 6-under-par 208 at the Innisbrook Resort Copperhead Course in Palm Harbor.

Lench defeated another amateur, Joe Alfieri of Tampa (68) by two shots, 37 days after he won the Florida Amateur at the Ritz-Carlton Club in Orlando. Lench joined Chase Seiffert (2012) and Jacksonville resident Don Bisplinghoff (1955) in winning both tournaments in the same year.
