Report: Michigan assistant Jeff Meyer in the mix for Liberty head coaching opening

According to ESPN.com’s Jeff Goodman, the Michigan assistant coach, Jeff Meyer, is “in the equation” for the vacant head coaching position at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia, where Meyer previously served as head coach for 16 years.

Meyer is under contract at U-M through 2017-18. He earned $180,000 last season on a deal that will climb to $220,000 in 2017-18. He also earns a “stay bonus” worth $25,000 after each year of his contract.

As head coach at Liberty from 1981-97, Meyer built a 259-206 record to become the Flames’ all-time winningest coach. He led the program through its transition from NAIA to NCAA Division I in the late 1980s/early 1990s and ultimately took Liberty to the 1994 NCAA tournament as Big South Conference champions.
