Liberty University wants its own electricity-generating plant and brought in Richmond lobbyist Ralph L. “Bill” Axselle Jr.  to represent its interests in several electricity-related bills.

Possible generating methods the university has considered include a biomass plant that could burn wood chips, a hydroelectric plant at a dam on the James River, solar panels on the school’s rooftops, and some wind options.

Axselle is following bills in the General Assembly that would require utility companies, municipalities and the Virginia Department of Transportation to share their rights of way for power lines.

Two off-campus shooting ranges owned by Liberty University will soon be open to students. Those interested are required to go through training and the first course is this coming weekend. University leaders decided it’s something they could offer students safely and at little cost.

The two off-campus shooting ranges are in a remote area off Candlers Mountain Road and LU police use them to train. But officials thought, why not let students use them too?

The Washington Redskins have hired Scott Wachenheim as tight ends coach. Wachenheim spent the last three seasons as the offensive coordinator and offensive line coach at Liberty University. The Redskins hired Wachenheim on Thursday. He replaces Rennie Simmons, who retired last month.

Liberty University’s Stand With Israel club is hosting ARAB – ISRAELI CONFLICT FORUM, Tuesday, February 3 from 6:30 to 8:00 PM in Towns Alumni Ministry Training Center.  The forum will include Dr. Randall Price, Executive Director and Distinguished Professor of Judaic Studies at Liberty University; Andrew Summey, director of Christians United for Israel’s on Campus Initiatives; and Amy Berelowitz, a campus Outreach Coordinator for the American Israeli Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC).
