A year round ski slope is coming to Liberty mountain, announced Jerry Falwell Jr. It will consists of artificial snow known as Snowflex, created in the UK. The Liberty Mountain Snowflex Center will consist of a main ski slope and a beginner slope for ski and snowboard instruction, totaling about 40,537 square feet of skiable area. Construction is slated to begin late August or early September with an anticipated grand opening around the start of 2009.

New Plan for Plaza

Another new plan for the Plaza in Lynchburg.  Liberty University will now be home to an off-campus program.  The old Roses building next to Star-Tek will house the aircraft mechanic program and lots of airplane parts. Liberty is leasing out spaces in the Plaza until it can be sold.

The Liberty University Flames announced Monday that Kyle Getter was hired as assistant coach for Ritchie McKay.

Getter was the top assistant from Walsh University in North Canton, Ohio.

LU Seminary enrollement is expected to increase by 50 percent. There’s going to be 510 resident students this fall, and 4,580 distance-learning students. Praise the Lord!

Lynchburg City Council decided to rezone about four acres for Liberty University. That property is on Carroll Avenue and Dearing Street. The rezoning is part of an agreement between the council and university. Liberty agreed to put undeveloped land into resource conservation in exchange for developing the Crossroads Colonnade Shopping Center.
